Lisa and Matthew - Glamour and Style at Stoke Rochford Hall

Some weddings really stand out for me. These tend to be the weddings that the clients really let me photograph the wedding day without any preconceptions about what they are going to get.  Clients like Lisa and Matthew for example, who simply said, "..do exactly what you want, so long as we get something different we don`t care what you do."

The weather was a nightmare, brilliant sunshine at high noon, not a cload in the sky. Perfect for the guests, but horrible for me.  Luckily, later in the afternoon, a few clouds wandered overhead allowing me to create some dramatic moody skys.

Later we used the beautiful oak panelled walls at Stoke Rochford to great effect, creating the `Gentlemans Club" feel to the main hall.

Hayley, the Bridesmaid, joined Lisa for a photo.

Matthew initially was quite nervous and was not too keen on being photographed, but before long started to enjoy himself

This year I have noticed that more Brides are wearing veils again.  Lisa veil made a real statement so I used that to my advantage, photographing Lisa against a dark `stormy` sky added to the drama of the image.

Sian and Eddie - Isle of Mull

Destination Wedding Photography

On occasion I am asked to travel considerable distances to photograph weddings. I am lucky enough to gain clients from all over the country, and sometimes further afield which means that sometimes I dont even get to meet the happy couple until the Wedding Day, but more often than not, they are just a local couple who are happy to drag me along to their chosen wedding location.

This wedding was just one such occasion. Sian and Eddie live near Gainsborough, but had chosen to wed in Calgary Castle on the Isle of Mull as it was one of their favorite holiday locations and it was a very special place to them both.

Sian, Eddy and their families had traveled up to Mull earlier in the week, I decided to meet them there the day before the wedding. They were kind enough to put me up in the castle so I could relax and enjoy a BBQ with them in the evening.

Friday was glorious, for the typical amateur photographer it provided perfect lighting, but for us professionals, it was a bit of a nightmare. far too bright and contrasty to provide flattering portraits without some careful modifying. Luckily I had brought my Lastolite Skylite diffuser panel with me and my portable lighting rig, both of which came in handy to soften and shape the available light into something a bit more useable.

Two very important guests at the wedding were Bailey and Elsa.  Too be honest, they stole the show, featured in most of my photographs and where the topic of discussion on more than one occasion.

Calgary Castle overlooks a stunning beach, so shortly after the ceremony we took a short walk across the sands much too the crowds enjoyment.

a scarf and a half...

27 July 2009

Today I had the pleasure of working with a good friend and excellent photographer Sam Hook.  Sam had asked me to help her out with a commercial shoot, which involved photographing a collection of beautiful scarves for a forthcoming brochure.

The shoot involved photographing 14 different scarves, which wasn`t so bad as we had an afternoon to do it, plus we had the help of Model Sara, who had already worked with Sam on a previous shoot.

Sam already had a few ideas, plus a fairly good brief from the client so she knew what she wanted from the shoot, I was there for moral support and to hump and dump the gear about.  Even though Sam had a good idea about what she wanted, Sam also wanted me to bounce a few ideas about and come up with some shots of my own.  I happily got stuck in, and after we had shot everything we needed I took the opportunity to play and photographed Sara and a couple of the scarves with a slightly different slant.

I had a great time working with Sam, its always good to work alongside a different photographer every now and then, as it helps to bounce ideas about and to give a something a little different to the project.  I just hope the client is happy with the images...

Thanks for today Sam, I really enjoyed myself, I look forward to working with you again soon....
